Drakengard 3 is a prequel and it doesn't even really share any characters with the others so you don't really need to play the other games first. You don't miss out on much more than a few references to the earlier games.

-Drakengard 3 is ok, but one of it's biggest problems is it suffers from painful framerate issues. -The PS2 games aren't that bad, Dragon riding is fun, but the ground combat can get a bit repetitive, and the requirements to reach the final endings will probably make you despise the game.
