Just so, what do cops see when they run your driver's license?
"Once your car leaves your garage, anybody can check your licence plate." So, police across the country are allowed to randomly check plates – and they do. The system checks the plate to see if it's on a hit list that includes expired or suspended licences.
Subsequently, question is, can cops see if you've been pulled over before? Most of the time, they'll make inquiries to see if your car is stolen, whether or not you're wanted by someone and if your driver's license is valid. This doesn't mean it's a good idea to lie about not being stopped, if you are asked.
Regarding this, what shows up when a cop runs your name?
Name, address, etc. But also your registration status, drivers license status, unpaid fines, outstanding warrants, traffic violations, valid insurance and with a few more inquiries to dispatch your complete criminal history. This includes things that you thought were expunged when you turned 18.
Can police run your name for no reason?
Police have authority to stop you on the street for no reason, but they cannot search you without reason. The Supreme Court has held that law enforcement officers can approach and talk to anyone. Most states have laws that require the presentation of identification under certain circumstances.
